  • E-Learning Survey
    .
The Conference Board of Canada completed a survey of 570 organizations in March 2003 about their use of e-learning. The highlights of the report are that 77% of respondents' organizations are using e-learning to some degree, although for most respondents (37%), it represents only 1 - 5% of their current training efforts.

The main challenges to implementing e-learning are 1) the cost of developing or purchasing e-learning solutions; 2) the time required to develop e-learning; 3) the need to be convinced of e-learning's effectiveness as compared to other training modes.

Of real interest is that of the 33 (5%) organizations doing Level 4 evaluation (measuring impact on organizational performance), only 4 indicated that they would need to be convinced of e-learning's cost effectiveness. Conversely, of the 153 (26%) organizations doing Level 1 evaluation (rates of participation and user satisfaction), 98 indicated that they would need to be convinced of e-learning's cost effectiveness.

    New Feature - Restaurant Reviews!
    .
Some of you who know us well will know that we are lovers of good food. In a spirit of fun and with an understanding that it's hard to learn with an empty stomach, we've decided to include a brief restaurant review in this month's Muse. Depending on feedback and how the mood takes us, we may include more, from different cities in future issues of the Muse. What do you think?

We spent the summer at Royal Roads University's campus just outside Victoria. While we were there we had the opportunity to eat out every now and again. Here's a brief description of one of our four favourite restaurants. There are many more that we have enjoyed, follow the link below to see reviews of four that we like.

On Government Street, in between two Chinese grocers is wee treasure. We first read about Brasserie L'ecole in Enroute, the Air Canada in flight magazine. It was rated as one of Canada's top ten new restaurants. We had to find out more! The food is amazing. During the summer they have a variety of fish on the menu, which we really enjoyed. They had chicken and some great sounding steaks, but we haven't tried these yet. The highlight for us was the cheese board. You're asked to select the cheeses you'd like when ordering your starters and mains; that way it can be gently brought up to room temperature before serving. A real treat is to pop in after an afternoon's shopping, sit at the bar, and enjoy a shared bowl of mussels and follow it up with a few cheeses. We're getting hungry just thinking about it! Look out for the great selection of Belgian beers and Belgian style beers from Quebec.
