    .
Dave has now finished his communities of practice workshop with Etienne Wenger and CPsquare.org. The next workshop begins on October 6th and any one interested in Communities of Practice should seriously consider signing up.

Part of the workshop involved organizing into teams and working on projects. During the June workshop, Dave Whittington, Nick Noakes, Oliver Schwabe, John Palka, Jeanne Longley, Bobbie Allaire and Shona Fraser worked on a Communities of Practice Startup Kit.

The startup kit is based on work from previous project groups, startup toolkits that are already available, sources such as Senge's Fifth Discipline Fieldbook, plus the team's own input. The toolkit is meant to be flexible and users can choose their entry point depending on their context. Two scenario documents are provided to help people see how the toolkit could be applied to actual situations. The toolkit and scenario documents are supplied in a zip file.

The toolkit is the result of a three week collaborative online project, where learning about working within a CoP was as important as the result of the work. The kit is supplied "as is". While it is not a fully polished document, and contains many "loose ends", it should still prove useful during the early startup phase of CoP development and clearly demonstrates what can be achieved within a well facilitated CoP.

In keeping with a summer (and hopefully relaxing!) theme, we'd like to highlight the artwork of Ann Perodeau, one of our colleagues who's been recently certified in LearningEdge. Ann is an accomplished artist and her website, Wilderness Art, is full of Canadian wilderness scenes.

You can also order her artwork as gift cards, customized to your own company.

    What's New?
    Our news ...

We hope you are taking some time off this summer and don't have to "quantify it" for your organization!

We're continuing our work with Royal Roads University (RRU) in August, with two exciting projects. We are teaching a 4 week online community building course in RRU's first fully online master's program, the Master of Arts in Distributed Learning (MADL).

We're also working with RRU's Organizational Leadership and Learning Division to assist them with the development of the proposal for their new applied doctorate program (EdD) in leadership and learning.
