Tammy Dewar, PhD CTDP ORSC

Tammy grew up on a farm in Alberta, Canada and brings a down to earth, entrepreneurial and hopeful attitude to her teaching, coaching and consulting. Having been the only one in her large extended family of hundreds to complete a PhD, she encourages and challenges people to transcend whatever limitations they may think they have. Tammy has lived in many cities in Canada, the US and the UK, but now calls Victoria, Canada home, and is committed to living a balanced and sustainable life with her husband and business partner, Dave Whittington.

Together, Tammy and Dave run Calliope Learning (www.calliopelearning.com), a consulting company that specializes in leadership development and coaching. They are proud to be a part of the growing high tech sector on Vancouver Island and are working with several exciting clients to help them be the best they can be. They also have clients in other sectors and provide team development, executive coaching, customized 360 performance reviews, action research, and the application of distance and online technologies to workplace learning. Tammy has been an associate faculty member at Royal Roads University since 1997 and she teaches in the MA, MBA, and Executive Leadership programs.

Tammy loves living in Victoria and enjoys the local food, wine, festivals, sporting events and amazing recreational activities. In the summer you can find Tammy riding her bike or walking and in the winter you'll find her watching the local pro hockey team the Salmon Kings. Travel has been a consistent theme in Tammy's life and she spends a lot of time on airplanes visiting friends and family in Alberta and the UK, as well as more exotic locales around the world.

Dave Whittington, PhD CTDP

Dave Whittington lives in Victoria, Canada with his wife and business partner, Tammy Dewar. They moved here from Glasgow, Scotland after he was granted Canadian Permanent Residence in 2004.

Dave grew up in the UK and spent his childhood in the Midlands of England. He always enjoyed being outside and exploring, something that is still with him today. Tammy and Dave do their best to keep themselves fit and enjoy walking, cycling and geocaching in this beautiful part of world.

Originally, Dave's background was in science, engineering and education and he has a PhD in computer science. With time, he became more interested in why various projects he was involved in had a mixed success rate. It became to clear to him that human factors such as open communication, team work, and leadership were critical, in addition to having technical expertise. Dave has been an associate faculty member at Royal Roads University since 2000 and he teaches in the MA, MBA and Executive Leadership programs.

Dave and Tammy are passionate educators who integrate theory and practice into creative, engaging and thought provoking learning experiences. They are committed coaches who inspire people to find and make the most of their leadership potential.
